Don’t underestimate the difference a good lighting setup can make. It will make your webcam image clearer and less grainy and it will make you look your best during your shows. This in return will make customers more likely to spend money and come back for more.
3 point lighting setup
You could use just a single light in front or above you to light yourself, But a single light casts shadows. And shadows are what prevent you from looking your best. If you want a more professional setup we recommend a 3-point light setup.
A 3-point light setup consists of three lights. Your Main light, your fill light, and backlight, these lights are independently adjustable in brightness.
Here you can see how to set up your lights for the best results:
Key light: Your main light (key light) comes next to your webcam so it lights you at a 45 degrees angle horizontally, and at a height where it lights your face/body also at a 45 degrees angle. This is your main light source so the intensity will be set at 100% (if it’s too bright you can set it lower but we will still count it as 100% and adjust the other lights accordingly)
Fill light: Next is the fill light, this light is to eliminate any shadows the main shadow casts. You set this light on the other side of the webcam again at a 45 degrees angle. But this one goes at eye level. Put this light at 50% intensity of the key light.
Backlight The third light is the backlight, the backlight is to light you from behind. It comes opposite of the fill light and at a 45 angle vertically of you ( the same height as the main light)
The purpose of the backlight is to create contrast and separate you from the background. Set this light at 20% intensity of the main light)
Affordable three-point lighting sets
You might think this all will be a huge investment but that’s not the case. You don’t need a super-elite high-grade set. Go on amazon and search for three-point lighting kits and you can find kits for 150 dollar or less. And they will do just fine
